ICCGS 2023
Conference participation

Members of the MoniTraffic team actively participated in the 9th International Conference on Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore Structures (ICCGS 2023), held in the picturesque city of Nantes, France, from 11 to 13 September, 2023.
The ICCGS conference, a renowned platform for naval architects, marine engineers, and scientists worldwide, attracted professionals eager to present recent research results on collision and grounding topics. This forum provided an ideal setting for participants to exchange experiences, stay informed about state-of-the-art developments, and engage in fruitful discussions on the challenges and advancements in ship and offshore structure collisions and groundings.
The ICCGS conferences aim to showcase state-of-the-art methods for the analysis and design against collision and grounding incidents involving ships, collisions with icebergs, offshore structures, bridges, submerged tunnels, and waterfront structures.

Professor Angelo Teixeira, the Project Coordinator of MoniTraffic, made a significant mark at the World Transport Convention 2023 (WTC2023) held in Wuhan, China, from 14 to 17 June, 2023. The convention served as a global gathering for researchers, scholars, practitioners, and government officials, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas and exploration of solutions to challenges facing the transportation industry.
Professor Angelo Teixeira showcased his expertise during WTC2023 by presenting an insightful academic report on Maritime Traffic Modelling and Abnormal Detection. His contribution not only demonstrated MoniTraffic’s commitment to advancing maritime technology, but also added valuable insights to the global discourse on transport.
In addition to the academic report, Professor Teixeira took the stage to provide a seminar on the New Generation Waterborne Transportation System. This seminar explored innovative approaches and advancements in waterborne transportation, aligning with the convention’s focus on discussing solutions to the challenges faced by the transportation industry today.

2nd workshop

As part of the MARTECH 2022 conference held in Lisbon on 24 May, 2022, the second workshop showcased tools developed within the framework of MoniTraffic. Led by the Project Coordinator of MoniTraffic, Professor Angelo Teixeira, and Professor Anna Mujal-Colilles, the workshop aimed to unveil studies in the field of maritime traffic monitoring. International contributions on the same topic were also presented, fostering an exchange of ideas among diverse researchers.
The workshop facilitated a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights, creating a platform for researchers to delve into the intricacies of maritime traffic monitoring. Attendees were treated to a presentation of various international works on the subject, sparking engaging discussions and sharing of ideas that are poised to positively influence the future development of MoniTraffic.

In a significant collaboration, Professor Angelo Teixeira, MoniTraffic’s Project Coordinator, took a leading role in the local organising committee for MARTECH 2022, the 6th international conference on maritime technology and engineering. This prestigious event unfolded in Lisbon from the 24th to the 26th of May 2022.
MARTECH 2022 is a conference for the global maritime community to convene and deliberate on the latest advancements in technology and engineering. The conference’s primary objective remains as a regular forum for presenting ongoing work in the sector. It fosters technical and scientific debates on matters integral to various fields linked to the Portuguese maritime sector, with the overarching goal of contributing to its continual progress.

The dedicated members of the MoniTraffic team actively participated in a workshop organised by the National Engineering Research Centre for Water Transport (WTU) in Wuhan, China, on 20 December, 2021. The Professor Angelo Teixeira led the team in presenting their work titled “Maritime Traffic Modelling, Prediction, and Abnormal Detection.”
The workshop, hosted by the National Engineering Research Centre for Water Transport, provided a collaborative platform for professionals in the field. It served as an opportunity for the MoniTraffic team to share insights and advancements in maritime technology, with Professor Angelo Teixeira leading the discussion on maritime traffic modelling, prediction, and abnormal detection.

The dedicated members of the MoniTraffic team made their mark at the 6th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS 2021), held in Wuhan, China, from October 22nd to October 24th, 2021. This prestigious event focused on the theme “New Infrastructure Construction for Better Transportation” and attracted experts, scholars, and practicing engineers in the transportation systems domain.
During the conference, the MoniTraffic team proudly presented their paper titled “Maritime Traffic Network Extraction and Application Based on AIS Data.” The paper delved into innovative approaches for extracting valuable insights from Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, showcasing MoniTraffic’s commitment to advancing transportation information and safety technology.

1st workshop

On the 25th of November at the IST Congress Center, the 1st MoniTraffic Workshop was held. The meeting was attended by representatives of EMSA, CCTM-DGRM, ENIDH, Grupo ETE, among others. The main objective of the workshop was to identify gaps in the current systems and to identify the latest developments in the different existing monitoring systems in order to create a platform that incorporates the tools developed in the course of it.

The conference not only showcased the latest developments, but also fostered technical and scientific debates on matters integral to various fields linked to the Portuguese maritime sector. The primary aim was to contribute substantially to the sector’s progress.
