About us
MoniTraffic is the project for Monitoring and Surveillance of Maritime Traffic off the continental coast of Portugal developed in 2020-2023. Our main objective was to develop an integrated system for maritime traffic characterisation and monitoring to provide a more rational approach to maritime operations planning, monitoring, safety and security.
This objective was achieved by developing tools for characterising the main routes and the operational profiles of the maritime traffic off the continental coast of Portugal and for automatic detection of abnormal traffic behaviour of merchant ships and fishing vessels.
Monitraffic involved two higher education institutions (IST and ENIDH), the Portuguese coastal VTS control center (CCTMC) of the DGRM (Direcção Geral de Recursos Naturais, Segurança e Serviços Marítimos) and the private company “Xsealence”.
